Army, 1957-60

Here are some photos from Fort Ord, California that I took with a Kodak Starflash camera using 127 size film. Enjoy! Also some from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii that I just added (7/24/2005); I will add more data (camera, date) after I look them up.

Named by the War Department in 1933 for General Edward O. C. Ord, veteran of the Civil War, later commander of the Department of the Pacific.

Included here are also some pictures from Schoefield Barracks, Hawaii.

I was in the Army from August, 1957 thru July, 1960; 33 months of service as an enlisted man. Basic was at Fort Ord, Calif. 2nd Basic was at Fort Belvior, VA. Then I was sent to Fort Sill, OK from about Oct. 1957 until August, 1958. After that I went to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii until mid-1960. with the 25th ID.

both of my parents and i were at fort ord for a few years in the first part of the 60's, ..i was born there, but grew up in other states and countries. anyways i wanted to leave a comment here because ironically my folks and i were talking about fort ord just the other day. ...i'll have to let him 'em know about this site. .....i actually have a few glimpses of memory of fort ord from when my younger brother had to go to the hospital there on the base, so it cool to find this site and photos while on my study break, thanks!

My Father was at Fort Ord for Basic 1957 or 1958 Carl Roy Elza. He had a tattoo on his left arm of what I thought looked like like a blob but he said it was some kind of Eagle. I met a guy who had some similar Eagle looking blob on his arm but he was at basic in ‘65 at FLW Missouri. Anyone get an ugly eagle tattoo back or remember my Dad.

got a fortsill Oklahoma graduation field book and 2 photos of a family member his name is 1st Lt silas m kemp i was cleaning out my grandpas house he was a korean war vet private first class and i came across the graduation book was wondering if anybody knew a silas m kemp maybe i can find the history of family from 1950s im only 26 years old and i love history i also got photos of other family it looks like they were in navy maybe i dont know too much those photos are from 1943 or earlier in California so if any info or help identifying family from photos would be helpful to me so i can learn who my family was from back then thanks Sincerely J.R

Just came across this site while trying to find some pictures of my husband ..He enlisted in January 1957 stationed at Fort Ord .all I have is some numbers ,,Co either R or K 3rd Bn 11th Inf.Rgt.His Name was Gerald F Schmidt ,called " Schmidti also " Bud " .If you happened to know him 0r met him you can contact me at the email below .Thank you ...

I was at Ft Ord from 1/7/1957 to 5/1957 and then to Ft Sill until 8/57 and then to Peden Barracks Germany until 12/1958.

I have an Uncle who just died, found a letter of Commendation dated 4 Oct 1957 as Outstanding trainee in Company A during the basic Combat training Cycle. He was David Acker. I'm wanting to know how long was boot camp and how long was your complete time of service. When I was in 1970 1973 we were subject to call back for 6 years. was in only 3 in 1957

I am trying to find information about my father's Company. He enlisted in 1957 (PFC Walsh, Russell E.)and was at Fort Ord for Basic. He was in the 5th Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Regiment, C Company. I am hoping to find photographs or really anything I can.

I completed basic trng inJuly 1964. Our bdlg was the cement type at the bottom of the hill. Would appreciate seeing the entrance buildings. There was a bowling alley in that area and a few others that I seem to forget about. Thanks for the memories.

I took my basic training at Fort Ord beginning 23 April 1957 and after basic attended the Chemical Corps School at Fort McClellan, Alabama and from there to Fort Detrick, Maryland. Thank you for placing these pictures on line, they do bring back memories!!!! Wallace H. Rinehart

Cool photos; they must bring back sweet memories. The concrete building interiors remind me of those at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1971 (basic training). I'd call the style "generic military barracks, mid-1900s."
