July 1 Fire

Saddleworth Moor

The fire on the peat moors near Oldham.
It started last Sunday, is under control but being observed.
It destroyed dozens of acres of moorland during the breeding season for ground dwelling animals and birds.

There is now another big moorland fire above Bolton, apparently started deliberately.....

wow, so sad especially when idiots set them on purpose. We have had so many fires in CA. Just last week, someone did not put out their cigarette and caught their unit in a 4 plex on fire. It is ILLEGAL in my city for anyone in a multi-unit dwelling whether you own or rent to smoke in it or within 25 feet of the building.... Great capture, good for photo journalism..

This is an amazing photo but a very sad one. I had heard ab out the moorland fire from a friend but seeing a photo is terrible. I feel especially sick about the wildlife.

Something we battle often in the U.S. It's horrible to think about. V

Vivid! Hope it stays under some form of control. Thanks for the note about my post. I corrected it.

I don't know who took that photo but I hope they stayed safe and out of the fire-fighters' way. :-)

Shame about the wildlife, but we should remember nature has evolved so this will recover. And in cases where rare species are in danger, I'm sure conservation groups will do their utmost to put things right in due course.

We are near Kelso and smoke is blowing over from Otterburn. The army thought it would be a good idea to do some live firing last weekend and have set a considerable amount of grassland alight. Military intelligence?

This sounds similar to Ev's PAD today... was this in France or Britain Chris? A fabulous photo regardless..
sorry to hear about it though... of all the wildlife who may lose their life in these unpredictable infernos.
