Seaton Sluice

view map

A small village on the coast. The name derives from Old English meaning a settlement by the sea.
The village grew around a small natural harbour which was used to transport salt from the nearby salt pans,
which date as far back as 1236 AD. In the 18th century, it became an important centre for making glass bottles,
but this declined and closed down in the 1870s.
