This rather austere window is in the Abbaye Sainte-Foy, Conques, Aveyron, in France, a popular
stopping place on the pilgrimage Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela. The abbey was
dedicated to a young woman martyred during the fourth century. The relics of Sainte-Foy arrived
in Conques through theft in 866 AD. The original chapel which housed the relics was destroyed
in the 11th century in order to build a much larger church to accommodate the increasing number
of pilgrims. The main fabric of the church dates from the 12th century.
