The Old Gaol

builk 1805-1811 as a gaol, it was used for only a few decades before being declared unfit for purpose.
and it was finally closed in 1868. For many years was used as a grain store. Some of its subsidiary buildings
had become slums and were demolished in the 1930s. During the 1970s it was partially rebuilt as a leisure centre.
More recently the buildings have been converted into residential flats.
