Inside Murdoch's Tower. This was a grim pit-prison, reputedly built to hold Murdoch, Duke of Albany,
before his execution in 1425. The tower was built in the 1200s, as part of the castle's original defences.
There was a ground-floor pit-prison which could be accessed only through a trapdoor above, in the first floor
of the tower, and this was reached via a passage in the castle walls. The second floor was entered from the
ramparts.
