Herstmonceux Castle, dating from 15th century, is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England.
The castle was dismantled in 1777 leaving the exterior walls standing and remained a ruin until the early 20th century.
The castle was restored between 1913 and 1933. In 1957, the grounds of the castle became the home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory,
and remained so until 1988, when the observatory relocated to Cambridge. Since 1994, it has hosted the Queen's International Study Centre,
part of Queens University, Ontario, Canada.
