The Abbey closed in 1538, and in its latter years, it became a country house/estate, when decorative dairies became fashionable
to entertain guests. The ice house was built by Godfrey Webster between 1810-1820. It was used to store ice harvested from ponds
in winter for culinary use throughout the following summer. It was extensively restored in 1991.
