Navy Wings Gazelle XX436. The original Gazelle helicopter was designed by Aérospatiale for the French Army as a lightweight observation helicopter,
but it was enlarged to facilitate greater versatility and make it more attractive to the export market. The first prototype flew in 1967 with a
conventional tail rotor, but this was replaced in 1968 with the distinctive fenestron tail in the second prototype. Subsequently, the helicopter
was also produced by Westland in the UK, who built 292 Gazelles, mostly for the British armed forces.
