Well of the Seven Heads, Loch Oich. This obelisk was erected in 1812 to tell the story of gruesome events which took place in September 1663.
Two MacDonald brothers were murdered by their uncle, “apparently to no great grief in the district”. On learning this, the local Bard borrowed
50 men from another MacDonald to bring the murderers to justice. Finding their house barricaded, they set fire to it, forcing out the seven men
inside, who were then killed. Their heads were severed and washed in the well before presenting to the Chief of GlenGarry. It was not certain,
however, that any of these seven were actually involved in the murders.
