Nieuwe Kerk – dating from the 14th century, this is Amsterdam’s second parish church, built as the population outgrew the Oude Kerk.
The church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times during its turbulent history, reaching its current size in the 1650s.
All Dutch monarchs have been crowned here since 1814.
