Berserkjahraun Lava Field

Berserkjahraun Lava Field, on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This rugged lava field covers most of the western part of the peninsula,
and stretches between the mountain slopes and the sea. Its sources are four prominent craters forming an east-west row from the Ogress Pass,
which probably erupted approximately 3600-4000 years ago. It was named after two Berserkers (formidable warriors mentioned in the Icelandic Sagas)
who cleared a road through it in 982 A.D. A local man persuaded them to make the road so that he would not have to go all the way around the lava
when he wanted to visit his brother who lived on the other side.
