One of three medieval towers that overlook the old city of Ghent (the other two being St Bavo's Cathedral and St Nicholas’ Church).
At 91m high, it is the tallest belfry in existence. Construction began in 1313, and it was completed in 1380, when it was topped
with the gilded dragon, brought from Bruges. The uppermost sections of the belfry have been rebuilt several times, partly to accommodate
the increasing number of bells.
On the right of the tower in this image is the Cloth Hall, built in 1441, where cloth woven in Ghent was traded.
