The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde – a community founded in 1245 for beguines, pious laywomen who opted for solitude and
devotion, helping the poor and teaching. One of 13 surviving beguinages in Belgium recognized as Unesco World Heritage Sites.
The last beguine left in 1927, and it has been occupied since then by Benedictine nuns.
