Temple of Neptune. Neptune was the god of the sea. The temple was also called the Temple of Hera, though both
these names have been much debated, and some now think the temple was more probably dedicated to Apollo or Zeus.
The inner chamber of the temple is divided into three sections by internal columns, suggesting dedication to three
separate gods. The largest of the surviving temples, measuring 60 m x 25 m, and dating from around 470-460 BC.
This is one of the most complete Greek temples in Europe, and is stylistically much closer to the classic Doric style.
