Cobh (pronounced “cove”), County Cork.
The Victorian seafront with its rows of terraced houses overlooked by St Colman’s, the imposing Gothic Revival cathedral.
Following a visit by Queen Victoria in 1849, the town was renamed Queenstown, but it reverted to its original name in 1921.
It has one of the world’s largest natural harbours, so it was a prominent naval base in the 18th century,
and a major port for merchant ships, and the main port from which Irish emigrants left for America.
It was also the last port of call for the Titanic.
