The first town in Spain after the tunnel. Bielsa has a tragic history. In June 1938, during the Spanish Civil War,
the "Bolsa de Bielsa Battle" took place here. A division of the Republican Army was trapped and 4000 civilians and soldiers
were evacuated towards France through the Old Pass, houses all over the valley were burnt and the cattle were stolen.
Bielsa was completely destroyed, leaving only a few ruins. After the war, its inhabitants came back and rebuilt the town.
