Grounded on Nobby's Beach....
Navigation or power? Bit of both with the emphasis towards navigation or rather poor decision making.
On the morning of the 8th June coastal NSW was being battered by possibly the worst storm and highest seas in 20 years. Authorities had advised the masters of the bulk carriers anchored off Newcastle awaiting coal berths(up to 50 at a time) to head to sea, most did, some "knew better".
The Pasha Bulker fought the storm, powering into it but still being blown backwards up the coast, finally grounding on a reef off Newcastle's most famous ocean beach and then blown onto the shore.
In Australia lifeguards position flags on the beach to show the safe swimming areas.. the Pasha Bulker is right there in the shallows where you would normally play with your youngsters!!
