Sun Pillar Phenomena

Off Ocean Beach in the Sunset District of San Francisco, CA (04-21-2011). Sun pillars form when the sunlight reflects off the surface of the cloud's ice crystals. They need to be wobbling or rotating horizontally rather than vertically as they fall through the air for tall pillars to appear.
