In Memory of Howard R. Jay

New Orleans

Nov. 17, 1938 – Oct. 13, 3004

Today I have decided to dedicate my Photo A Day to a good friend Howard Jay who passed away on Wednesday. He was an engineer with CSXT from 1957 to 2004 when he retired. Howard came up through the ranks as a railroad fireman and then as an engineer. He was the kind of person that when you needed information about our working agreement, you could go to and get the answer for your problem, he knew the agreement. I would talk to him about my 401 and get advice about investments and the information was always great. Howard enjoyed working with the guys on the Mobile division and enjoyed what he did. He always was kind and never had a harsh word to say. He will be missed by all. He just retired in Sept. and did not get to enjoy his retirement,
To all of his brothers in BLE 140 and friends, feel free to leave comments by clicking on the link below.

I did not know Howard very well, but he was always a pleasure to talk to and be around when I did see him briefly. His close friends said he is the type of person that makes a good friend to someone. He was always friendly and willing to help in any way. We all could stand to have more friends like Howard. We all should use this moment to remember to always keep in touch with our friends and tell them how much we appreciate them, because one day it may be too late.

For the three (3) years that I worked on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans, I had
numerous contacts with "Howard Jay." He was always a good, honest and knowledgeable man.
He would always take the time to speak and tell a story. A lot of times, he would just call over the radio just to say "hello" as he went through the coast. Several times, he
provided information to me to assist in criminal cases to protect the railroad and his
fellow employees. Howard was just a "Good Man" and he will be missed.
