La version la plus récentes disponible est la version 3.7 (date de sortie : 6 novembre 2013). Il existe d'autres versions plus anciennes toujours disponibles (y compris sous DOS), mais de nombreuses instructions ne sont pas compatibles avec celles de la version 3.7. Avertissement concernant la création d'images utilisant un logiciel de raytracing. 1) Il est nécessaire d'avoir une bonne aptitude à "voir" dans un espace à 3 dimensions des objets pouvant être très complexes. 2) Pour utiliser le logiciel, il faut bien étudier et comprendre de très nombreuses instructions indispensables pour créer un objet même simple, sachant que certaines d'entre elles sont extrêmement complexes. 3) La création d'objets, même relativement simples, nécessite de posséder de bonnes connaissances de la géométrie dans l'espace, et parfois d'autres bonnes connaissances des mathématiques. Enfin, il faut savoir qu'une image complexe à créer peut exiger un temps de travail considérable (voir un example simple d'image ici, cette image ayant été transférée dans l'encyclopédie Wikipédia). La plupart des images portant des numéros à partir de 2.000 sont complexes à créer.

Warning about the creation of images with a software of raytracing like POV-Ray. 1) It requires a very good ability to imagine objects in a three dimentional space. 2) It is necessary to learn and understand a lot of commands provided by the software to create a simple object, and many advanced commands are complex or very complex to use. 3) It is mandatory to have a very good knowledge of solid geometry. A complex image may required a huge amount of time to be created (see a simple example here). Most of the images with a number 2.000 and above are difficult to create.
