Pourquoi cette galerie ? La raison est très simple. Le père de l'auteur de cette galerie (né en 1907 et décédé en 1995) a été affecté dans ce fort dès le début de la seconde guerre mondiale comme artilleur (septembre 1939). Il y a passé environ 4 mois. Ses compétences en matière d'installations électriques complexes ont conduit les autorités militaires à le transférer en janvier 1940 avec toute sa famille à Saint-Nazaire pour installer divers disposifs électriques sur le cuirassé Jean-Bart avant son départ de l'estuaire de la Loire. Il a assisté, dans la nuit du 18 au 19 juin 1940 à partir de 4h40, au départ réussi du cuirassé, pris sous le feu de trois gros bombardiers allemands.Sans ce transfert, il serait resté dans le fort du Hackenberg jusqu'à la signature de l'armistice (25 juin 1945) et jusqu'à ce que son commandement reçoive l'ordre de se rendre aux Allemands (évacuation du fort le 4 juillet 1940). La plupart des soldats présents dans le fort ont ensuite été déportés, et il semble qu'aucun ne soit revenu vivant. ======================================================================= Why this gallery ? The reason is very simple. My father (born in 1907 and deceased in 1995) was posted in this fortress at the beginning of the second world war as an artilleryman (September 1939). He spent about four months in the fortress. But, because of his knowledge of complex electrical installations, he was transferred in January 1940 with all his family in the city of Saint-Nazaire to install electrical equipments on the battleship Jean Bart, until the ship was taken out of Saint-Nazaire under the threat of three German bombers. Without this transfer, he would have been in the Hackenberg fortress until the order of reddition (June 25, 1940).
