Red-Tailed Hawk and his Kill

Capitol Complex, Des Moines, Iowa

About time I got back into the photo-when-I-can frame of mind. This seemed a fitting start. I was driving to tae kwon do when I spotted this guy on the side of the rode having dinner. Needless to say, I missed class, but how often do you see this. I originally thought this was a peregrine falcon as Iowa has been working to restore the peregrine falcon population. We have several nesting pairs of peregrine falcons that live around downtown Des Moines. However, after some research, I realize he is actually a red-tailed hawk. No less beautiful, but not quite as rare. For those of you following the Memphis pictures, I still have more, so please do stay tuned to the Memphis gallery for more.

Isn't it amazing how photography takes priority? I LOVE it! I would have done the same. Excellent capture, once in a lifetime.
