Red Rock in the Fog

Cutface Creek, near Grand Marais, Minnesota

This red rock along the shore of Lake Superior just stood out in the midst of a foggy, dreary day.

Lava spewing from active plate techtonics beneath the lake? Nice pic, RC. I can hear the waves.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I can attest this is Nature's photoshop. There was no color added to this picture. The rock may be a remnant of red granite that was formed in the area as a volcanic intrusion millions of years ago. It might be red due to the presence of feldspar and/or other iron-containing minerals. You don't want to get the geologist started on this topic!

Beautiful shot, I thought it was selective coloring, but it appears to be a natural monochrome.

Interesting lift to a very monochromatic day... OK, why was it red?
