We met him in the synagogue in Riga. He escaped to Russia and avoided getting shot in the woods. One of the most poignant memories I have of our trip is a map on the wall of a museum. The legend had two sets of arrows. One set read "This way to the partisans and life". The other set read "This way to death"
He made the right choice.
