Williamstown is a 'suburb' of Melbourne, about 15km from the city to the west. It's a nautical sort of place, full of docks, a naval dockyard, lots of yacht clubs, marvellous views of Melbourne, and a village atmosphere. The shots here were taken from The Strand on Wednesday, the mid-week yacht racing day.
Newport is on the way to Williamstown, and famous mainly for its power station. The power station pumps out warm water into a channel beside the Newport launching ramp, and this must be the reason for the strange name of the ramp area, The Warmies. It's common to see many people beside the channel, shoulder to shoulder, fishing for tailor and other fish that seem to like the warm water.
