Parque Nacional Cajas

Rough and bleak nature reserve to the west of Cuenca, elevation ~4,200m/13,800ft.
The omnipresent grass is called 'Páramo'. Especially stunning is the forest of Polylepis trees, also called 'paper-tree' due to its very, very thin bark. Those trees grow in higher altitudes than any other tree around the world.
