mallee & riverland trip 2006 (SA and Vic)

NOVEMBER 2006
Looking like a couple of scruffs with untidy hair & dusty clothes - we lived with red dust, sticky flies, unconventional bush or pit toilets, irregular showers.
Early bedtimes, falling asleep watching the stars, listening to creatures at night and then be woken pre-dawn by the birds.
Our road/car camping trip ("roughing it") took us through Victoria and South Australia, experiencing various habitats and parts of the Fleurieu Peninsula,
the Coorong, Adelaide Hills, Barossa, riverland and lots and lots of mallee.

Australia's arid interior, most places are dry, many water bodies are dried up, and a noticeable absence of stock grazing the paddocks now.
Some places which previously would be home to abundant wildlife were so quiet one could hear a pin drop. Drought.
To be amongst nature, despite some harsh conditions, was great. Fascinating to see the hardy mallee vegetation thriving.
Exciting to come across each new and different creature - bird, animal or reptile. The cameras worked overtime, it was fun. Enjoy the images!

Note: the images have now been moved to the appropriate galleries (eg South Australia, Victoria, Wildlife)
