Top End Birds of Prey at Flight Deck - Territory Wildlife Park - Northern Territory - Australia

We got to see/meet the following raptors up close:

"Gizmo" the Barking Owl - this species makes a "woof woof" sound like a dog, got to see this one tenderize and eat a dead mouse too.

"Errol" the Black-breasted Buzzard (hamirostra melanosternon) - the only raptor in Australia that uses rocks as a tool to break open
eggs. A demo was given with a replica plaster Emu egg - she has been trained to even clean the pieces up after her!

"Ozzie" the Osprey (pandion haliaetus) - only raptor species that can dive under water. Demonstration of plunging into water to catch fish!

"Indi" the Pacific Baza (aviceda subcristata) and "Penny" the Peregrine Falcon (falco peregrinus)

"Ruby" Rufous Owl (ninox rufa) - hand raised and not shy of humans. For a donation people could have a supervised hold.

Wedge-tail Eagle (aquila avdax) - the female Wedge-tail Eagle is Australia's largest raptor. Sometimes found on/near
roads feeding on roadkill. Care should be taken as it takes them a while to get airborne!
