The Top End and northern part of Australia is inhabited by Saltwater crocodiles, the largest
of all living reptiles. They are found in both freshwater and saltwater.
There is estimated to be over 100,000 crocodiles in the Northern Territory.
A crocodile trapping and removal program is used in the Darwin area for safety purposes.
Apparently over 300 crocodiles are removed from Darwin harbour each year!
Warning signs are often seen and common sense is needed when one is near water in the Top End.
Fortunately for us the only wild Crocs we came across were the ones seen from the safety of the Yellow Waters and Corroboree Billabong wetland cruise boats.
