This is a photograph of a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) that flew by my house. It is a regular visitor and is the leader of a large flock that numbers over 100 wild birds. He often sits aloft on a tall pine tree keeping watch for hawks and other birds of prey while the other cockatoos are about. He regularly lets out a loud screech, something the other birds seldom do. When he raises the hawk alarm the cockatoos begin to fly in an erratic zig zag pattern and he can be heard for miles. I have named this cockatoo 'the Screacher' for obvious reasons.
