Mam and Mandy handle the roaps as I handle the lock. These a deceptivly dangerous, let too much water in two quick and your boat gets flooded, put the boat two far back on the way down stream and you end up stuck on the concreteCill as the water empties. We fell foul of the third pitfall. The lock gets narrower on the way down. This ment on our way back down this lock 3 days later we got jammed solid with a six foot narrow boat, I told the guy ours was 9ft wide as he entered the lock alongside us, he didn't seem bothered about the tight squeeze so I went with his experience against my better judgement. As the water empty his wife yelled STOP as there wooden hulled boat jammed up fast against the stell Hull of Charlotte II. A bit of quick thinking and disaster was averted. Phew.
