2012 Padang

Padang is situated in West Sumatera, Indonesia.

The most famous attraction is the event called 'Pacu Jawi' or bull racing.
This Sumateran sport is held in the between of each rice harvesting/planting season in the Minangkabau tradition
to bring fun and encouragement to the people. It is also a contest between villages in the area.

This race took place in Tanah Datar, West Sumatera, Indonesia.
With their hands and feet occupied steering the bulls, jockeys must bite the tails of the bulls to make them go faster.
It’s dirty, dangerous, and somewhat insane, but it’s an event worth watching and photographing nonetheless.

The winners are not judged on the speed of the race, but on the jockey and bulls performance.
The jockeys had to prove their strength, bravery and expertise in bull handling.
The ability to entertain the crowd is also an important judging criteria.
