Georgian architecture. The home was built between 1765 and 1769 by Miles Brewton, Revolutionary Patriot. It was inherited in 1775 by his sister, Rebecca Motte, a Revolutionary Heroine. It still remains in her family. The massive spikes at the top of the fence, better seen in the next photo, were defense against a possible slave rebellion.
The home was used as British Headquarters 1780 - 1782 and Federal Headquarters in 1865.
