We were heading from North Yellowstone to Glacier National Park. It was getting late, gas was low, and we had no room for the night. We kept passing exits on I-15 that read No Services. We were coming up to the town with the biggest dot on the map... Wolf Creek, Montana.
Lucky Break #1. They had gas. Exxon at the Canyon Store. I asked the clerk at the Canyon Store about lodging in the area. He said that normally we should go on up to Augusta, Montana but they were having a rodeo and all rooms were probably taken. He grabbed a post-it note and wrote down a phone number. "Call this number", he said, "It's just a few miles down the road. Maybe they have something".
Lucky Break #2. They did have rooms. We ended up at the 7R Guest Ranch. Go under the viaduct, turn onto highway something or other, hang a left at the horse statue and take the dirt road for a mile or two. Great rooms. Great restaurant with a full bar and the owner played guitar and sang some country tunes while we ate. Someone was watching over us.
