We were fortunate to capture the images of a Wildebeest crossing of the Mara River in the Masai Mara NR. The Wildebeest migrate from the Serengetti Plains in Tanzania to the southern and central grasslands of Kenya during the period roughly from July through September. The total number of animals exceeds 1 million, and the river crossings can sometimes be chaotic, as some of these images depict. The Wildebeest seem to sense the danger from the Nile crocodiles, but eventually decide to cross and sometimes stampede over the top of the river banks to plunge headlong into the river. Most make it across, but some drown or are killed by the crocodiles.
