I had never heard of this place, but Via Krupp consists of a stunning zig-zag pathway along a towering cliffside that overlooks the southern part of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was commissioned by a German steel manufacturer, Friedrich Alfred Krupp, to connect his luxury hotel, Grand Hotel Quiisana,
situated on top to his yacht anchored just offshore at Marina Piccola.
Via Krupp's amazing switchbacks can be best viewed from the top of Giardini di Augusto where I took this shot. The pathway is mostly closed now due to falling rock.
Friedrick Krupp was kicked off the island in 1902 due to a scandal and supposedly committed suicide that same year. The gardens were originally known at the Krupp Gardens, but the name was changed after he was kicked out.
