Oatman is a former gold mining town. From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, the gold mines
were quite prosperous and it was a thriving town.
In the 50s it was pretty much a ghost town, but once Laughlin, AZ was built not far from here,
it became popular as a tourist town for people visiting Route 66.
The wild burros are descendants of the burros brought to the area by the miners. They are free
to come and go as they please, so you will usually see quite a few of them in the town.
