The Giant's Causeway Stones

Antrim Coast, Northern Ireland

These stones gave rise to the myth of the Giant, Finn McCool.
The story goes that mythical Irish giant Finn MacCool built the causeway to get to Scotland
and battle with a rival giant called Benandonner.
Actually, the stones were formed by a flow of basaltic lava. As the lava cooled, it formed
these hexagonal shapes 6 million years ago. It is known to the Irish as the 8th wonder of the world.
Today it is a world heritage site.
