Bantey Srei Temple

Angkor, Cambodia

These guardian monkey sculptures are replicas of the originals, which were either stolen or
moved to the National Museum in Phnom Penh. This temple is amazing as so much of it is well
preserved. Some of these doorways lead to libraries. I didn't know that when I was there so
I don't know that much about them. I just enjoyed the beauty of this temple.

In is youth,in 1921, famous french novelist André Malraux, former culture minister of Charles de Gaulle in the sixties, stole statues in this beautiful temple of Bantey Srei. Denounced he is condemned to spend three years in a jail in Indochina. But at last after intervention of his wife, in France, this punishment is transformed into one year with reprieve ... The scandal does that its literary career starts ...But maybe you know that... Superb image anyway with a great light ! BV.
