This square is the largest in Paris and was created in 1772, by the architect Jacques-Ange Gabriel. It was originally named the place Louis XV.
In 1792, during the French Revolution, it was renamed the Place de la Révolution. A guillotine was installed and many famous people were be-headed here, among them Marie-Antoinette.
In 1830 it was given the name Place de la Concorde.
