Jim

Jim is a 1-year-old, 45-50 pound male Lab mix. He was originally found as a stray with his brother Bo. Bo and Jim are friendly with people and do great with each other although can be adopted separately. Jim would love to explore the world with a new human companion. He enjoys big soft dog beds to stretch out on and has a few favorite stuffed toys he seems to baby at the shelter. He is a first-class snuggler and will lay next to you and spread out on your lap if you let him. He gets along with almost any dog staff match him with for playgroups and seems afraid of cats. Jim does have a sensitive side and will bark at things he's not sure about. If something startles him he will bark, and usually run away, with a tucked tail and ears back. He met 3 energetic fast-moving kids with crazy hair (one smaller kid with a giant wig) and while he was a little skittish he did well taking treats from them and was more curious after getting used to them. To set him up for success, he might enjoy a little less activity for his new home. Shelter staff recommend going slow introducing him to new places and if he's scared of a person to have them ignore him and continue about their day with calm confident energy until he gets used to them. Jim tends to jump a lot when you first meet him, but he is food motivated, fairly easy to train, and will often choose to settle on his bed after exercise (you can maintain this behavior strong by tossing him treats when he's relaxing on his bed). He seems very respectful of our shelter mascot cat and had no interest in chasing him. For more information, call the shelter at 303-679-2477, Wed.-Sun.
