A few years back Mr. and Mrs. Daigle traveled to Williamsburg from their home in Fort Kent, Maine, as they had done each December for many years. If you had ever been to Fort Kent, Maine, you would know that it is very far north and some have said that in winter it seemed on the very edge of the North Pole. They made the long trek to Williamsburg each December, because this is where Mr. Daigle would magically be transformed into Father Christmas, a thing he dearly loved. The trek south on that year was bitter, sweet; both Mr. and Mrs. had grown old and a heavy mood fell upon both as they traveled…this may be their last trek to Williamsburg. The mood soon passed when Mr. Daigle donned the long red coat and travelled the streets of Merchants Square bringing merriment to the many children he met.
That year, Becky visited Williamsburg for the first time with her family. Hers was a musical family and they would think nothing of stopping anywhere along their travels to entertain. So it was no surprise that on this day, traveling the streets of Merchants Square and playing their stringed instruments to bringing Christmas cheer to folks, that the magic happened…
Becky, then a young girl, spied Father Christmas as he passed along his usual way. So taken by him (and who could not be), she ran up and asked, “Oh, Santa, can I play a song for you?” And that is what she did…shared her precious gift with Father Christmas in this his last year in Williamsburg. Everyone who stopped to listen was blessed. The woes of the world seemed to pass for a moment as this little girl share her gift with Santa.
May we all freely share our gifts during this season for who knows who will be touched, Joyeux Noel! |
