Well I agree, all rules are made to be broken, the trick is deciding which, when and the likelyhood of being caught;) Interesting composition, I agree completely and as far as your goal, you have exaclty what you want but from the perspective of viewer, it's odd having an area on each side of the pick in focus and troublesome for my eye. hmmm maybe this is a good thing. It makes me stop and look and question but someone else my skip on by for something more satisfying. For this person, you may need to consider a crop down the middle to put soft on the left, sharp on the right.
I admire and enjoy looking at other people's pin sharp flower shots. For myself, the fun in doing florals are finding interesting compositions and often trying to see how close I can get in terms of marco distance. To this end I try for the largest aperture numbers aiming for the smallest sharpest areas. Rules? Rebel more like :)
Nice to have these exchanges Robert. Its both important and interesting to see through someone else's eyes.

It's tricky going against the rules and making the foreground so out of focus. Your bound to attract some criticism but rules are made to be broken.. To my eye, I'm not sure how well this one works. I'm drawn to the sharp areas and your control of the focus really makes me look at the detail in the brackts and petals but overall effect, I'm not sure.
