As I was driving home one day, I saw this tree was being taken down recently due to old age and recent droughts.
It was such a fine old tree that I grabbed my camera to record this sad and unusual event, and pay tribute to its long life.
When the final cut was made in the stump of the tree, the owner and one of the workers started counting the rings,
and stopped part way. After counting 165 rings, with many left uncounted. They determined the tree to be at least 200 years old.
That means it was growing on this spot before the American Civil War, and possibly even during Napoleon's time.
It saw a lot of history .
