Works of art and architecture are everywhere one walks in Florence.
During the Renaissance, various guilds (similar to our trade unions) supplied a sculpture for the niches around the sides of Orsanmichele.
This woman has just passed by Verrocchio's "Doubting Thomas", made by the artist between 1465-83 for one of these niches.
