When I got home this afternoon and
looked outside at the bird feeders, this
image was in the middle of the yard.
My guess is that it was left by a
visit last night from the local Great Horned Owl.
Voles are probably tunneling under the
snow to the birdseed, and with its
incredible auditory skills the owl
detected one and made the dive. I think
its feet went in near the lower left of
the image, through about 5 inches of snow.
I think the bill just made a slight dent in
the snow near the upper right.
