Konala (in Swedish Kånala) is a northwestern suburb/district of Helsinki (in Swedish Helsingfors) with about 5500 inhabitants (2012) and 4400 working places (2010). Konala's neighboring cities are Espoo and Vantaa. Konala is a very verdant area with woods and parks. We have here many detached/one-family houses and terraced houses with small gardens, and apartment houses (blocks of flats), too. We also have low grade school, a kindergarten (Karhi), a big playground, and some light industry in this area. The village of Konala was incorporated as part of Pitäjänmäki in 1946 with Helsinki City. Up to about 1960's Konala was farming area. Therefore there are street and lane names referring to former agriculture: plowing, sowing, harrowing, tilled ground, or to the name of a farm.
