Azalea and Rhododendron Parks are situated in Haaga, Helsinki - from the end of May to the middle of June these parks are full of colorful azaleas and rhododendrons. The parks are frequently visited by the inhabitants of Helsinki, both young and old enjoy the beauty of these colorful flowers which grow in a forest.
In 1973 - 1979 the University of Helsinki together with the park department of Helsinki City made an experiment with rhodos producing 499 different crossbreedings. The goal was to produce colorful rhodos which would endure the Finnish climate. From the crossbreeded plants the best were chosen to be used in Finland. The Azalea Park has been established later.
