In response to the numerous inquiries regarding the recent destruction from tornados in central
Florida, Smoke Signals contacted Nancy Perryman Parris who lives near the Lady Lake area.
Nancy writes:
My Village escaped the devastation. Where it did strike was only about 5-7 miles
from me. I was awakened at 3 a.m. due to the torrential rain and wind. But I was very
lucky. We didn't even lose limbs off the trees. About 1200 houses were damaged or
totally destroyed, but no one was killed in The Villages. Below is a link to our
newspaper, The Daily Sun, distributed on the afternoon after the tornado. You can
see in the pictures that these were very nice and well built homes. They are saying it
was a category F3 with winds in excess of 150 mph. It is just amazing how it can skip
over some and do so much damage to others.
